Teaching Fire Safety to Kids

Fire Prevention Coloring Books

Out of all the things we can teach kids, fire prevention and fire safety is one of the most important. Our children learn about fire safety at school, but it is also necessary to reinforce that knowledge at home on a regular basis. These are some of the most important points of fire safety.

The single most important point is to always use smoke detectors. Few people are aware that most fire-related deaths are actually caused by smoke inhalation rather than by flames. That is why it’s important to have a smoke detector on over floor of your home and near every sleeping area. You want as much early warning as possible. But it is very very important to check every smoke detector at least once each month to double check that they are working properly. And even though the smoke detector may still currently work, make sure to put in new batteries at least once a year to avoid surprise outages.

A second crticial aspect of fire safety is having a family escape plan. Children learn a school evacuation procedure while at school, but it’s of course . The main slogan is "Be Prepared." Draw up a floor plan of your home, and select at least 2 possible escape paths for every room. That way if one route is blocked, you can use your second route as an alternative. You should also designate a meeting spot outside and away from your house, and teach your kids to stay at that meeting spot no matter what happens.

Another important point to teach children is that fire is not to be played with. Lighters and matches are for adults only. Adults should do their best to keep them out of the reach of children. Children should also be taught to avoid tossing things into the fire place and touching lit candles.

The above points are a few of the points that children need to understand for their safety. But there are others. You should check with the local municipality and fire department for more comprehensive information. In addition there are many other internet-based resources available.

Where Do We Get Gold? The top producers of precious metals worldwide

Where is gold found?

Gold is a famous metal that affects all of our lives, but most of us at some point wonder where gold is found. That’s because it doesn’t appear out of thin air and magically mold itself into the shape of a ring or coin. Gold has to be located and mined before it can be processed and turned into such prized possessions.

The main source of gold on this planet for the last 120 years has been the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa. Much of the earth’s untapped gold resources are believed to remain there, with some estimates saying that the proportion is up to one third.

In particular Nevada, but also other states like Alaska, California, and Colorado have a gold mining output.

After the United States, the third biggest gold producing country is Australia. It is an amazing sight to see.

The above 3 countries have been the most powerful producers of gold over the past 120 years. Other nations like Australia, Canada, and the USA actually have more gold reserves than China does. But the lower cost of labour and manufacturing in China, in addition to recent increases in foreign investors having faith in China, have helped China make more efficient use of its reserves than the other countries that are more resource-rich.

The UK’s Imperial Legacy

The UK (United Kingdom, also known as Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is a country lying off the coast of Europe, with the English Channel being the only thing between them. The UK is an important country for many reasons, including its economic power, its former colonial power, and its influence in world affairs. It has a population of approximately 61 million, and has a high population density.

The UK possesses the world’s 6th-largest economy. On top of their economic system, the UK’s cultural way of life has also left its mark on the world, with English now being the dominant global lingua franca, and football (aka soccer) now being the most cherished sport around the globe. British literature is world-renowned and study all over the globe. The British system of law has also formed the core foundation of many countries’ legal systems around the world.

The UK’s massive influence stems from its days as a huge empire, holding colonies all over the world. The empire was the biggest one in all history, controlling twenty five percent f the Earth’s land surface at its height.Still today, the UK holds onto fourteen territories overseas, that are remnants of the British Empire. The UK’s seat on the UN Security Council is permanent.

Israeli Travel Sites

Highlights of Traveling in Israel

Israel is an exciting and rewarding place to travel. The country is brim-full of ancient historic and non secular sites, unimaginable geographic variation for such a tiny country, great food, generally wonderful weather, and an engaging mix of cultures. Unfortunately it is a country in conflict, and the portrayal of this area on the news frightened a lot of travelers away from this entrancing land. But supplied with a little bit of knowledge and basic care, traveling in Israel is really quite safe.

From a geographic viewpoint, Israel is so different from region to area that it feels like many different states in one. The coastal plain which encompasses the cities of Tel-Aviv and Haifa features rolling sand dunes and palm trees, beautiful beaches, and mild but really wet subtropical weather. It is a great area to absorb the sun, enjoy nightlife, and absorb the ambience of modern Israel’s culture. Yafo is a part of Tel Aviv, and is a restored traditional city all the way back to biblical times. Further north in Haifa you may visit the world headquarters of the Baha’i religion. Further north in Akko you can visit the Medieval old city and experience its Arabic atmosphere.

To the east of Haifa and Akko lies the Galilee region, the area where Jesus was raised. The town of Nazareth lies in this area lies in this area, and includes a number of churches and churches in respect of Jesus. Nazareth is populated mainly with Israeli Arab voters, so you can experience the contrast with Jewish Israeli culture. To the east of Nazareth lies the town of Tiberias and the ocean of Galilee. This is where Jesus walked on water, and where John the Baptist was baptised. There is some gorgeous scenery in the area, and some beautiful churches devoted to Jesus and events concerning him in the area. A fun activity is to hire a bicycle in Tiberias and ride the bike around the sea of Galilee. This can take a complete day, but if you can withstand the heat, it is a superb short break.

In the south of Israel lies the Negev desert, the hottest and driest part of Israel. Its main focal point is the resort town of Eilat, which is known for scubadiving, snorkelling, and pleasant weather year round. The summers in Eilat , however , are freakishly hot, infrequently reaching 50 degrees. Bring a bathing suit!

And of course the jewel in the crown of any trip to Israel is Jerusalem. Lying in the Judaen hills and having a religion heritage rivalled by no other town on Earth, Jerusalem has a cultural atmosphere like nowhere else in Israel. This is the place where King Solomon ruled, where Muhammad rose to heaven, and where Jesus was crucified. The Old town of Jerusalem lies in East Jerusalem and has a Palestinian majority, so you can experience the Palestinian strategy for living while also seeing the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian holy sites inside its walls. The city of Bethlehem lies solely to the south of Jerusalem, but within the Palestinian autonomous area. Many tourists visit Bethlehem and it is generally safe. But check the news before traveling there, because occasionally there are issues between Israeli troops and Palestinians in the area. The Church of the Nativity marks the spot where practice says that Jesus was born.

Israel is an engaging land with so much to see, and more than things to see there is so much to learn and experience. Talking to Israelis and Palestinians and understanding their country, its conflict, and its cultures is a fascinating and eye-opening experience. I am hoping you can experience this land too.

Transformers History

Transformers and Where They Came From

View Transformers coloring books

Transformers are characters in a well-known line of toys from American toymaker Hasbro. Transformers change, or "transform" of course, from the shape of robots to the shape of other things such as cars, planes, tanks, weapons, and even cassette players. The Transformer toyline was also adapted to become a cartoon television series, a comic book series, and a number of full-length movies. The countries where the Transformers have enjoyed the most success are America, Britain, and Japan.

The Transformers legacy began in the 1970s with the Japanese toylines Microman and Diaclone, produced by toy maker Takara. In 1984 US company Hasbro licensed the rights to use the Takara toylines, rebranding them as "Transformers".The new Hasbro toys were the same as the Takara toys, though they were sometimes repainted or changed some other minor way. Hasbro also created a new storyline for the toys, giving new names and personalities to the Japanese toys. Then later on Hasbro also started coming up with new Transformers that had no predecessor in the original Microman and Diaclone series. In 1984, the success of Transformers in the US prompted Takara to end its production of Microman and Diaclone and instead begin marketing them as Transformers.

In 1984 a Transformers cartoon series began running on television, and so did a comic book series from Marvel Comics. In 1986 the animated tv series was adapted into a full-length motion picture. The movie caused a shock to Transformer fans with the death of many beloved characters, including Optimus Prime, the leader of the heroic Autobots. Optimus would later be resurrected at the end of the third season of the tv show in 1987. That was the final year of the US animated series, but a Japanese version of the show continued to be produced, and comicbook series continued to be updated in the US and the UK. It should be pointed out that these various series did not conform to the same storyline and they contradicted each other over and over.

New generations of Transformers have come to life since the end of the US tv series, but most of the old Transformers fans from the 1980s have not been impressed by the new generations and prefer the original series. One such "generation" appeared in the series Beast Wars and its follwup Beast Machines, between 1995 and 2001. A Hasbro toyline of this new generation was also created. It took place in the future after the original Transformers series, and included a lot of flashbacks to the original.

Additional incarnations and interpretations of Transformers have also been releasted, but have never been able to compete with the fame of the first generation series. Only the current Transformers movie series has matched the popularity of the ‘84-’87 Transformers craze, with the release of "Transformers" in 2007 as a live-action movie, followed up by "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" two years later. A third installment is due in 2011 or 2012. With world-renowned computer-generated animation and an all star cast of hot, young actors, the current movie series has reasserted the power of Transformers over the entertainment and toy industries.

Aztec Adam was raised on the Transformers and owns every issue of their Marvel Comics series. See his recommended Transformers coloring books at Printable Coloring Pages.

The Controversy over the Yellow Smiley Face

Yellow Smiley Faces and Their Long History

See a great collection of Smiley Face Clip Art to download.

On the internet these days you see a lot of young people making extensive use of smiley faces and emoticons, icons that add emotion and feeling to text communication, as well as help avoid misunderstandinds of nuance. They use them widely in emails, instant messenger chat, and forum postings. But despite how widespread these icons are, not very many people know their history and where they came from.

The yellow and black smiley face design that we are all so familiar with was first created by artist Harvey Ball in 1963, for an advertising campaign of State Mutual Life Insurance. In the 1970s the smiley exploded in popularity when it was used on a collection of novelty products created by Bernard and Murray Spain. Featuring the pleasant catchphrase "Have a happy day", some of the best-selling products included coffee mugs, t-shirts, stickers, buttons and badges, etc. The uncomplicated image and message sent the clear message to busy people that life is precious, and they should enjoy every minute of every day.

Many people and groups have laid claim to the yellow and black smiley, the almighty Walmart included. In 2006 Walmart made use of the smiley in a big promotional campaign and made an attempt to copyright the smiley in the USA. This caused a standoff between Harvey Ball, in addition to another party called "Smiley World" that licenses the rights to the image in many other countries. Walmart
gave up its claim to the icon in 2008 when a judge ruled that they did not own the long-standing image. After that, Walmart slowly began to move away from using the image, removing it from advertising and its website.

It goes without saying that such a simple image can be developed simultaneously by the minds of several unrelated people who don’t know of each other, and that they would all lay claim to the idea. But perhaps Harvey Ball can claim the copyright based on moral highground, since he uses proceeds from licensing the smiley face to fund his charitable organization. That kindness is a perfect reflection of the happiness and positivity of the smiley face image.

Krugerands South Africa

Krugerands South Africa

South African Krugerrands are some of the most sought-after gold bullion coins in existence. Krugerrands consist of exactly 1 oz (33.93 g) of gold, and small bit of copper (2.826 g) to form a more durable alloy. So the final weight of a Krugerrand is 1.0909 troy oz., or 33.93 grams. Some new collectors worry that they are receiving less gold when buying a coin of less than 100% purity, but in truth 1 ounce Krugerrands contain exactly the same amount of gold as a 100% gold coin like the Canadian Maple Leaf. The weight of the additional metals is not counted in the gold’s weight. South African Krugerands were the first gold coins to contain exactly one ounce of pure gold. Before the production of Krugerrands, most gold coins had contained uneven amounts of oure gold that corresponded with the coin’s face value, since the gold standard still applied.

The Krugerrand is named after Paul Kruger, the Boer resistance leader fifth president of the South African Republic. Kruger’s face is printed on one side of the coin, while a depiction of the springbok antelope is printed on the reverse. Both are world-famous symbols of the Republic of South Africa. The famous national park called "Kruger National Park" is also named after him.

Krugerands started to be produced in 1967 in order to sell South African gold outside of the Republic. The coin has legal tender status in South Africa, with it’s value corresponding to the current market values of 1 troy oz. of gold. There was a somewhat sneaky reason for making the coins legal tender, and it wasn’t because South Africa wanted gold coins to be in regular circulation. It was because legal tender coins can be considered collectibles in other countries.. At the time, it was illegal for Americans to own gold bullion, but it was legal to own foreign coins. South Africa made use of the "collectibles" loophole by selling a lot of Krugerands to US buyers. The US government turned a blind eye, perhaps so that those "in the know" (most likely wealthy people) would have a chance to get around the rules, while leaving most citizens out of the gold market. But in later years, the USA and other countries banned the importing of South African gold coins to protest the Apartheid regime. It was during this time period that other nations began producing their own bullion coins with legal tender status in order to make up for the lack of supply.

Even though it is normally only a 1 ounce coin, in 1980 the Krugerand was minted in fractional denominations of 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce, and 1 ounce. And in the beginning of the 80s, some mysterious silver Krugerands were minted, but nobody knows by whom.. The silver coins (more appropriately called "silver rounds" since they are unofficially minted) have no reference to South Africa on them, maybe to bypass the Apartheid bannings. The coins do say "Krugerand" on them, but that is a violation of a trademark of The coins show no indication of who minted or issued them.

Today there may be a wide variety of 1 oz gold bullion coins available, such as the US American Eagle, the Australian Kangaroo, and the Canadian Maple Leaf, but South African Krugerrands still maintains some prestige as the original legal tender coin whose value is based on its gold content. Another thing that makes it popular is its unique appearance, with a somewhat
